Welcome to Technology Leadership!

Throughout this class, we will be using wikispaces as our digital classroom. Please be sure to check the site often. All assignments and class activities will be posted here.
This class is, as the name states, about Technology Leadership. We will be looking at many of the issues plaguing education technology today and will look at ways that we can make a difference in our own classroom and school when it comes to meeting theof the digital generation. Many classrooms today are still caught up in the teaching and learning methods of the 20th century. This class will make a case for teaching 21st century skills and why those skills must be taught to students if they are going to succeed in our increasingly global society!

I am pleased to once again be teaching the Technology Leadership class here at Furman University! This is my fourth year teaching this class for the university and I look forward to the rich discussions we will have throughout the course. I started my career as a middle school teacher at Greer Middle School where I was fortunate to be able to teach all subjects and grades my first year in middle school. I finished the last few years teaching 6th grade Language Arts and Gifted and Talented. I also served as IB Coordinator my last year at Greer Middle School.

I moved to the district office after teaching for five years to take the job of Technology Facilitator. I always integrated technology in my classroom as I saw it interested and engaged students. My students enjoyed the technology rich projects we did and it was evident from their test scores that they could learn in a project based environment. I spent a year as technology facilitator for the district, teaching teachers how to integrate technology into their classroom. I moved into the role of Distance Learning Coordinator
a year later where I started the district's Distance Learning Program and Virtual High School. Not long after that, I accepted the job of Instructional Technology Director. I served in that position for the six years where I watched the department grow and become more influential in the classrooms around our district. After serving as the Executive Director of Academic Innovation and Technology for the last four years, I accepted a position as Interim Associate Superintendent over the Academics Division.

I live in Travelers Rest with my husband and three year old Malti-poo, Cooper.
